Last year we had a Brat Summer, and before that we had Barbenheimer, so you may be wondering: what entertainment do we have to look forward to this year? With a mix of old and new, summer 2025 looks like it’s going to be a great time to live it up.
Movies
Hoping to see something new and entertaining on the big screen this summer? Luckily for you, there are a number of films coming out all throughout the next couple months. Some heavily anticipated titles include Thunderbolts*, the How to Train your Dragon live action remake, Friendship, F1, Karate Kid: Legends, and Jurassic World Rebirth. It’s been a lucky year for those who like classics, with the 20 year anniversary spring re-releases of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and Pride and Prejudice. The acclaimed Brokeback Mountain will also be re-released in theaters this summer, beginning on June 20th and showing for a week.
Looking for more summer-themed modern classics, but don’t know what to watch? Fear not, as I have accumulated a list of movies with the perfect summer vibes. Beginning with bittersweet coming-of-age stories, we have Moonrise Kingdom, Almost Famous, Juno, Porco Rosso, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Before Sunrise. If you are looking for a more nostalgic and adventurous vibe, you should watch Dazed and Confused, The Sandlot, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Mamma Mia, or The Goonies.
Books
Summer is the few months of escape from a time consuming school year, and a great time to catch up on an extensive reading list. With the sun shining all day long curling up with a good book by the beach can provide a much needed break from reality.
Craving a juicy, almost-guilty-pleasure? Revisit timeless classics such as scandalous historical dramas like The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid, the life story of a Hollywood movie star, and The City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert, a coming of age story set in the theater world of NYC in the 40s.
Some new releases to check out include Great Big Beautiful Life, Sunrise on the Reaping, The Paris Express, The Stolen Queen, and the newest of the Marble Hall Murders.
Music
As usual, summer brings the return of our favorite artists with some new music. Ones to look out for are Lil Wayne’s new album The Carter VI, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard’s Phantom Island, Kesha’s Period, Lana Del Rey’s The Right Person Will Stay, Ethel Cain’s Willoughby Tucker I’ll Always Love You, Addison Rae’s Addison, and Lorde’s Virgin.
If you’re looking to see some live music you can catch artists at festivals such as Outside Lands, Bottlerock, and Cali Vibes featuring Green Day, Tyler the Creator, Doechii, Hozier, John Summit, Slightly Stoopid, and Rebelution.
In case festivals are a bit too much for you, check out individual concerts this summer such as Leon Bridges, Katy Perry, Flo Rida, Father John Misty, Creed, My Chemical Romance, Michael Franti and the Spearheads, and Nine Inch Nails.
From blockbusters and page-turners to life changing concerts and album drops, summer 2025 is shaping up to be an entertaining few months. No matter your vibe, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. So grab your cold drinks and beach towels and get ready to have some fun!
